The Fiddler On The Roof

A Movie Directed by Norman Jewison

I happen to watch this movie on Star Movies yester day. Since sleep is not my friend, and I have to have a full prayer to that eluding goddess, so I watch movies or sports, till I sink in to the slumber.

Chaim Topol played a Jewish milkman role in a tsarist Russia, who loved his family, his faith and his drinks.

This musical, whose music was scored by Oscar winning composer John Williams, is thoroughly enjoyable film, if you have some love for musicals.

Topol whose face slightly resembles our Big B is an actor par excellence. He went under the skin of the character is commendable and he won the Oscar for the role.

Norman , created a Jewish village, it’s traditions, politics caste system and all small details with tender love.

His cameraman helped him to record the details required by the screenplay. The lighting in the stable and the village pub was superb.

When they were forced to leave the village by the Russians, Topol gave his best. His muttering to his daughter, who married a non Jew is an expression of a highest caliber.

The songs of the movie are available in You Tube, watch the film if you like musicals…..
